In 2001, I was working a fairly innocuous desk job with a lot of down time and had just about read through all of Salon.com's offerings. I asked a hip literary friend of mine what she was looking at those days and she suggested MetaFilter. It's been an ever evolving blossom of a (sometimes lurkery) relationship since then. Thanks for growing old with me, MeFi!

It was love for MeFi from the start, and what's been interesting for me has been to watch the community's growing pains and maturation, and how it's developed into a place where nuanced discussion is upheld and disputes are handled with kindness. And it's always been fun having one of my pre-MeFi, real-life best friends, Kattullus, also be a strong, intelligent presence on the site. It reassures me that good things can continue to be great in the world.
