Back in 1998-99 I was working at Borders Book & Music headquarters in Ann Arbor, MI. I was part of a team building their first e-commerce site. Doing the blogging thing way back then, there were just a handful of people on the Internet who I kept track of due to their talent. One of them was Matt Haughey. I emailed him and asked him if he'd be interested in relocating to Michigan for a job with Borders. He was still at UCLA then and declined.
A little while later, I got an invite to Metafilter.
