How did you find MetaFilter?

I think I got to lurking in AskMe via Lifehacker and from there eventually ended up reading the other subsites. Eventually I signed up for an account so I could ask a question.

What is your fondest memory from MetaFilter?

For serious, they are the best cats (sorry, all the other cats; I'm sure you're pretty good, too)

This is a silly thing, but about a week and a half after I moved out of the apartment I had shared with my former partner, I'd been rattling around in my new place feeling sad and lonely and I asked metafilter if it would be terribly irresponsible of me to adopt a cat if I was planning on moving across the country (Wisconsin to Oregon) in the next couple of years. Metafilter, predictably, told me I was being silly and of course I could get a cat, and I read everyone's answers and felt weepy waay out of proportion to reality... until I got to this answer:

NOT OREGON CATS HATE IT THERE!

And I just cracked up and giggled like a crazy person in my cubicle at work. It was a perfect release of some of the tension and stress and excessive seriousness that was going on in my life at the time, and it (along with all the other answers) was exactly what I needed.

I did end up adopting a couple cats, by the way. They are the best, even at three in the goddamn morning when Katsu decides that the best way to show her affection is to nibble on my face.
