Two of my favorite sites were misterpants.com and cardhouse.com--I'm pretty sure I first found Metafilter through a link on one of those sites. I remember the link description that intrigued me: Who are these people?
Mambo dogface in the banana patch
One of my first comments in a thread said something about "mumble dogface banana patch". And a mysterious email appeared in my inbox soon after, from a mysterious person called "jpoulos". He rightly corrected my reference to: "May I mambo dogface in the banana patch".
And I knew I was home.
I met jpoulos years later, in an opium den in Marrakesh, and he decried any knowledge of this incident.
