Songdog kept sending me links to it, so it was in my consciousness, and being stuck in my office on 9/11 and following the catastrophe via the famous MeFi thread really hooked me. I wanted to be part of the site from then on, but of course those were the days of closed signups, and by the time Matt finally let me in in August 2002 he had also closed the cult threads I so desperately wanted to be part of. Such is life.

Sexism threads like this. It really felt like MeFi was changing for the better, and that the change would stick. It's been somewhat discouraging seeing the same battles fought all over again since then, but I remind myself that new people keep joining and of course most of them haven't been through all that and have to start from scratch. At any rate, MeFi will never again be the boyzone it once was, and if we can make that change here, can the world at large be far behind? Don't answer that.
