I wish I could remember how I found it here! Like everyone else I lurked before I could join. I probably started lurking in late 2000 or early 2001, and clearly remember the 9/11 thread as a community building moment for me. Refreshing that thread from my office in DC after many other folks had evacuated our building downtown, looking for news and human connection, I really wished I was more than just a lurker here, and a year later I had a user name. W00t!
Reader, I married him!
I joined the site because I thought it was a great community with really interesting links. Then a year later I went to a local meet up in DC, and met this great guy! Then we started dating! And I fell in love with him! And we got married! Then we had a baby! Now she is two years old!
So, um, thanks, MetaFilter, for my cool spouse and our amazing daughter! You know, the links and the community are pretty great, too, and AskMe is revolutionary. But you gave me my own little community here at home, and I will always be profoundly grateful for that. So, thanks mathowie!
Go, go, go to your local MetaFilter meet-ups!
