My partner is a long-time Mefite, and he got me hooked!
Snakes from the Internet
Once upon a time, I decided I wanted a pet reptile. I was concerned, however, about the ethical implications of confining such a lovely, non-domesticated critter in an aquarium, and I needed somewhere to start my research on the responsibilities associated with Snake Motherhood™. Naturally, I consulted AskMe.
I got many helpful answers, and one memail from someone with the username Lou Stuells who was seeking to re-home her two beautiful adult snakes. Lou was located in Massachusetts, however, and I am in Guelph, Ontario, so I figured it wasn't meant to be and responded accordingly. Lou replied that she had a friend in Niagara County in NY State who would be willing to bring the snakes as far as Niagara Falls on the Canadian side, if I could get that far. Incidentally, I have family in the area. So, one night in a dark Tim Hortons parking lot, I became the proud owner of Harper the ball python and Ted the corn snake (now named Fran and Bernard, respectively). It was a weird and awesome moment, and it still blows my mind that it worked out so perfectly.
