I'm not sure of whether I found MeFi or MeFi found me. It's all lost in the haze of time, way way back in days that were confusing and exciting at the same time.
Meeting Mathowie
A long long time ago, I was wearing a very different pair of glasses. Problem was that some other member of this site (namely mr. founder himself) had had the audacity of picking a pair of glasses that was substantially similar to the one I wore. Due to other elements of resemblance, many people in New York in the early days of MeFi seemed to confuse me for mathowie. While we ended up in many similar places for several years (conferences, mefi get-togethers...) it seemed that I always missed him by only a few minutes or hours and it wasn't until 2006-2007 that I finally got to meet my elusive doppleganger. My first reaction upon meeting him was "he looks and acts absolutely nothing like me; he seems like a much nicer guy", a thought that was rewarded with Matt buying me a beer shortly thereafter.
MeFi, to me, is what the WELL once was, a community of smart people discussing interesting things. Congrats on 12 amazing years and hoping for at least 12 more...
