I have no idea how I originally found MetaFilter but I do know I've been reading the site for a long time (how long? I'd been lurking but finally joined the site soon after September 11 when I just...had...to...say...something.)
Looking back now, it wasn't anything too profound that I felt compelled to add. Instead, I was just trying to find a video clip of David Letterman's monologue in his first show back after September 11. Oh, those halcyon pre-YouTube days!
I especially like how I encouraged people to put the clip on Morpheus which was apparently the p2p client I was using that week.
(I related this story of being inspired to join by 9/11 to Jessamyn once and she laughed, "Oh, so you're one of *those* members." Er, at least I think she was laughing as she said it.)
ChatFilter, Quonsar and Mushrooms
1. I know we frown on chatfilter questions around here but there are some that have slipped through - not as much as they used to unfortunately - which are often some of my most memorable reads (and others too, based on the number of favourites.)
2. Some of the early personalities who are no longer around - MiguelCardosa, Quonsar, Amberglow and probably others I'm forgetting.
3. That one thread about mushrooms.
