The program I use at work (Flame) is odd in that it doesn't allow rendering in the background - so anytime I want to get a preview of what I'm working on, I get a 10 minute (or so) break while it processes. I had been getting bored during these times, so I asked my friend Dug, who seemed to be a bit of an expert at loafing around, what is fun to read on the internet. He sent me the Perry Bible Fellowship, Achewood and MetaFilter. I lurked for a few years after that, always meaning to sign up, but never getting around to it. What finally pushed me over the edge was a post about a movie I was working on - it was a pretty unusual project that I was actually excited to be working on, but the person who made the post basically just made fun of it. Of course, the post was made while I was out of town for a week and away from the internet, so it was way too late to be part of the conversation, but the fact that I really wanted to made me realize that I should get involved here.
learning something everyday
I just love the fact that there are posts about everything, and intelligent knowledgeable people discussing them. I'm fascinated by so many topics, there's nowhere else that spreads such a rich banquet of interesting stuff. My brain just yums it up. Thanks for being so damn captivating, everybody!
