I actually had to search through MeTa to find how I found MetaFilter, as I can no longer remember. Here it is!
"Liquorice first came upon MetaFilter when perusing the site of Whedonesque which links here on their 'About' page. Upon entering the Blue she came upon a post discussing sex dolls and the ensuing 150+ comments that followed. Gee, she thought, any place that discusses blow-up dolls at such a length is the place for me! and so, her (creepy?) love for MetaFilter was born."
In losing her, I found you.
I don't know if "fondest" is the right word for this memory, but it's the one that stands out the most and the reason I cherish this place as being somewhere unique in a world (the internet!) that is so varied and strange.
In the week following my mother's passing, I asked a question to AskMe for advice and support on how to cope. The outpouring of kind words, anecdotes, and just plain love left me with the knowledge that a bunch of strangers can really care for you even if they have no idea who you are or what you stand for. This site helped me through the most difficult time of life, and for that, I am indebted to it and every member who posts here.
